11Alive Weather Van visits King Elementary
King Elementary
kindergarteners were treated to a special science lesson on Thursday,
December 3, 2009. Learning about weather, the water cycle and
thunderstorm safety were topics of the discussion led by 11 Alive
Meteorologist Chesley McNeil. The TV station supports science education
with its weather van which visits schools and helps students to learn
about the role of weather in the life cycle. The students listened
intently as McNeil talked about precipitation, condensation, evaporation
and runoff.
"It is the same
rain that rained on your grandparents," McNeil said as he explained how
rain falls and evaporates to the sky and collects in clouds to rain
again. He explained that cumulonimbus clouds are storm clouds and talked
about the types of dangerous weather such as thunderstorms, lighting and
tornadoes that sometimes follow them.
"11Alive you're
the one!" students cheered and smiled as they waved to McNeil and his
cameraman, Bruce. It was cold outside but the weather report at King
Elementary was sunny.
