Adamson Middle School hosted its 3rd annual canned food drive in
the Clayton County Public Schools System.
Each homeroom teacher encouraged students to bring in as many
canned food items and non-perishable items as they could.
The first year of our canned food drive, 2007, our students
donated over 1,400 canned foods/non-perishable items.
The second year of our canned food drive, 2008, our students
donated over 1,600 canned foods/non-perishable items.
This year, our students collected 3,168 canned/non-perishable
items. The homerooms and
grade levels encouraged the competition among the students to increase
their participation. The
students were told that the homeroom that brought in the most items
would receive a pizza party when the students return from the Semester
Break.
Each morning, the items were collected for pickup.
The homeroom that donated the most canned food/non-perishable
items was combined with the homerooms of our students with disabilities,
who brought in a grand total of 908 items.
Other homerooms brought in canned food totals that ranged from
100-400 items. Even teachers
participated and brought in items to contribute to their homeroom totals
and to the canned food drive totals.
We publicized the drive on our school website and sent home Calling Post
phone messages several times each week to remind parents and students
about the importance of our holiday initiative.
At the end of the canned food drive, we were able to donate the
items to two local food pantries, Feed My People, Inc. in Stockbridge,
GA and Hearts to Nourish Hope in Riverdale, GA.
We are extremely proud of our students' efforts to help
individuals in need during this holiday season.
