Standards-Based Classrooms in full swing at King Elementary!
Third grade students in Mr. Buddy's classroom at King Elementary
completed student-centered activities on the skill of the week: sequence
of events. Students were provided a variety of opportunities to master
this skill through the use of (a) small-group differentiated
instruction, (b) utilization of 21st century equipment, and (c) by
participating in a collaborative culminating activity.
For the culminating activity, Mr. Buddy’s 3rd graders were paired in
groups and were given the task of picking a topic, finding a recipe,
measuring the ingredients, and following the necessary steps to complete
their project. School administrators, parents, and fellow students in
attendance witnessed each group’s presentation. The presentation
consisted of successfully preparing: chocolate and strawberry cakes,
fruit smoothies, brownies, and rice krispie treats. Thinking out of box
is the norm at King Elementary because school leaders and teachers are
continually striving to give students opportunities to participate in
real-world activities. This will certainly prepare them to compete and
succeed in a global economy!
