Donuts with Dads
Hawthorne Dads sent a loud message to Moms that
they were not going to be outdone! Dads turned out in record numbers
for Donuts with Dads recently at Hawthorne. “The event is held twice a
year as a way for fathers to come and spend time with students before
the daily routine begins,” shared Mrs. Chrisy Walker, PTA President and
coordinator of the event. “We thought Muffins with Moms was big, but
our Dads really came through!” It’s also a time to encourage families
to join the PTA.
Dr. Marcus Jackson, Assistant Principal, spoke to
the group and thanked them for coming as well as, for their support. He
also stressed that while our parents do an excellent job of working with
the school, we’d love to have Dads serve as mentors, not only for their
child/children, but for the entire Hawthorne Family.
What a wonderful sight to see so many Dads with
their children! They sat, ate, talked, relaxed, listened, and just
simply enjoyed spending time with family. A few Dads had heard about
Muffins with Moms and wanted to know what was in store for them? They
were told to be patient because their day was coming soon. It did!
There was a lot of chatter among the group, but there were also obvious
signs of love and dedication all around the room. Both Dads and
children seemed happy to just be spending time with each other.
Welcome to Hawthorne! Our mission is to provide
students with the skills necessary to achieve academic and personal
excellence. With this in mind, Donuts with Dads is just one of many
activities planned to help us achieve this mission and much more. Stay
tuned… You’ll be hearing from us again!
