Curriculum Night at Elementary Schools
It might be nighttime, but parents are learning
what students do all day at Clayton County Public Schools. Elementary
schools hosted curriculum nights to introduce parents to ways enhance
their children’s learning experience at the elementary and middle school
level.
Parents and students at Oliver, Suder, and West
Clayton Elementary chose a variety of ways to introduce standards to
parents at the nighttime events. Oliver held a Math Make-it, Take-it
event which introduced counting, operations, geometric shapes and
fractional parts to students from kindergarten to fifth grade level.
Suder parents were treated to a carnival atmosphere with activities
based on the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in math and science.
West Clayton Elementary parents traveled on a passport to literacy with
a variety of games that reinforced math and language arts skills for
pre-kindergarteners and beyond. Parents enjoyed the events and the
opportunity to participate in instructional activities.
The affairs featured were arranged by Oliver ES
Math Coach Freda Jackson; Suder ES Literacy Coach Elta Shoemaker and
Math Coach Angela Hutton ; and West Clayton ES Literacy Coach Shavon
Beckett and Math Coach Tiffany Campbell.
