King's 5th Graders Visit our Nation’s Capitol!

The
5th grade teachers at King Elementary took 61 fifth graders to
Washington D.C. for their senior trip. It was an outstanding
experience for our students. During the two day adventure through
Washington D.C., our mission was to visit the four M’s, Museums,
Memorials, Monuments and the Mall. Our first visit was to Arlington
National Cemetery. Students got an opportunity to remember and
honor our country’s war heroes during this solemn visit. In
addition, students visited the Smithsonian Institute-Museum of Natural
History and watched an IMAX movie on dinosaurs. The students also
enjoyed visiting the Lincoln Memorial. This tour was especially
important because Abraham Lincoln plays a significant part in our Social
Studies curriculum. Additionally, Congressman David Scotts’ assistant,
Arthur Tripp, Jr., met the students and presented each with a copy of
the US Constitution and other memorabilia and snacks. This
educational experience was concluded with a visit to other historical
sites located in the Washington Mall, including the Washington Monument,
museum of Air and Space, and the Capitol building.
