Scholars?
Athletes? Community Contributors? 38 of Clayton County's Students are
all three rolled into a dynamic package of Academics, Sports and Active
Participants in their schools and communities. On Thursday, March 18,
they were all honored for their accomplishments at an exquisite banquet
held in the cafeteria of Drew High School.
Parents and
grandparents, police officers and famous athletes, as well as many of
the Clayton County Schools' administration and staff were on hand to pay
tribute to these extraordinary young people. Young men and young women
were awarded plaques and goodie bags in appreciation for their
dedication to their education. Superintendent, Dr. Heatley said, "thank
you for representing Clayton County Schools."
The benevolence
of the Douglas family was honored with a special tribute from Jonesboro
High School. The Douglas family spends much time, energy and financial
resources ensuring the well-being of Jonesboro High School, Clayton
County Schools and the entire Clayton County Community. Two Douglas sons
have gone on to become professional athletes, one a New York Knick and
the other an Atlanta Falcon.
The banquet was
sponsored entirely by the generosity of "Sports Champions of Greater
Atlanta." Mr. George Wright, the President and Founder gave an
inspirational Invocation and had an inspiring message for the attending
Scholar Athletes.
