The Technology Student
Association from Riverdale High School and their sponsor Steve Price
were visitors at the State Capitol on Tuesday, February 9. They are
pictured in the Senate Education Committee where they were introduced by
Senator Gail Buckner.
Chapter officers, which
included TSA State President Raven Hathcock, represented GA TSA at the
annual GACTE (Georgia Association of Career & Technical Education)
Georgia CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organizations) Legislative
Luncheon. Students from all over the state converged at the Depot in the
shadow of the gold dome and enjoyed lunch with State Senators and
Representatives invited from their districts.
Speaking at the luncheon were
State School Superintendent, Kathy Cox and the newly elected Speaker of
the House of Representatives, David Ralston. Also attending the luncheon
at the invitation of the RHS team was Assistant School Superintendent,
Derrick Manning and CTAE Director, Betty Jones (picture attached). Our
own Raven Hathcock was seated at the head table and was responsible for
introducing one of the special guests.
After the breakfast, the team
was invited to visit Senator Seay in her office, met the Speaker of the
House in his office and Senator Gail Buckner, who sat with the RHS TSA
group, invited the team of officers to attend the Senate Education
Committee meeting. During the meeting Senator Buckner surprised the TSA
officer team by recognizing the consistent excellence and recent
accomplishments of the chapter and its advisor. The students shook hands
with each member of the committee and had a picture taken with them.
Senator Buckner also had a picture taken outside the chambers with the
group.
