Amber Holmes, a sophomore from Lovejoy High School, won
the Atlanta Hawks Poetry Slam Contest on January 5, 2010. As the grand
prize winner, Ms. Holmes won a laptop from Wal-Mart, a Hard Rock Café
jacket, a signed Hawks jersey from Marvin Williams, a signed game ball
from Joe Johnson, and a $20 Wal-Mart gift card. Ms. Holmes will perform
the winning poem during halftime at the Atlanta Hawks MLK day game
January 18, 2010. Ms. Holmes will also present her poem during the Ryan
Cameron show on V-103.
The theme of the Hawks contest was “What does live
united mean to you?” The theme was inspired by the United Way brand,
LIVE UNITED, which encourages people to think about how they can work
together to create a better world.
