More than 25 post secondary agencies attended the College Fair portion
of the first Unity in the Community: College Awareness and Step Show
Fest 2010 on Saturday, February 20. Students examined the many opportunities
available after high school. People of all ages attended the event and enjoyed
the celebratory spirit evidenced by volunteers in their college,
sorority or fraternity apparel.
The step show segment of the event played to a standing
room only crowd.A sign at the entrance doors of
Drew High School read "Tickets Sold Out,"
as a crowd estimated at near 3,000 filled the gymnasium to enjoy the
team performances.
"The planning committee was dedicated to coordinating an event which
would unify our community and showcase the talent of our amazing
students," said Lee Buddy Jr., a committee member.
Spectators were entertained by steppers representing 18 elementary, middle and
senior high schools, as well as guest entertainers.
Three panels of rotating judges awarded winning trophies to River's Edge
Elementary, Rex Mill Middle, and Riverdale High.
The Winning Teams from the Riverdale High School and Rex
Mill Middle School will perform during the half-time show on April 3,
when the NBA Atlanta Hawks
take on the Detroit Piston's .
Due to the success of both the College Fair and the Step
Show, this fest is being planned as an annual event. Proceeds will benefit the
Superintendent's Scholarship Fund.
