Tallest man visits Smith ES
Students look up to speaker at Smith Elementary

Students and teachers at Smith Elementary found themselves up in the air - so to speak - when George Bell, the former tallest man in the United States, spoke at an assembly on the last day of school before semester break.

Bell, pictured in left column with Principal Thomasina Goodgame, stands 7 feet 8 inches tall, a dimension that labeled him as the tallest man in America by Guinness World Records until Igor Vovkovinskiy grew into the title.

Currently a deputy sheriff in Norfolk, Va., Bell spoke with students about his life, the world record, and the importance of appreciating and respecting differences among people. He was born in 1957.
