 for National Education Award

JONESBORO - Clayton County Public Schools Director of Transportation John J. Lyles is the 2009 recipient of the Thomas Built Buses® Continuing Education Award. The award was presented at the 35th Annual National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) Summit & Trade Show on Monday, November 2, 2009 in Louisville, KY.

"Mr. Lyles' standard of excellence is reflected in the safe transport of 31,000 plus students daily," said Superintendent Edmond T. Heatley. "We are fortunate to have his example of leadership for our transportation team."

Lyles holds a B.A. in Communications from Columbus State University, (GA) and an M.S. degree in Business Management from Troy University, (AL). Lyles earned his national certification as an NAPT Certified Transportation Director (CDPT) in 2008, and has served as transportation director at Clayton County Schools for the last four years.

Lyles was recognized with a plaque and a check for up to $1,000 to cover the costs of pre-approved tuition, lodging, travel and meals to attend a NAPT-approved workshop.

The award was created by the NAPT in collaboration with Thomas Built Buses® to help further the education of an NAPT member in the field of public school transportation.
