College admission tests supplement
the secondary school record to help college admission
counselors put local data - such as coursework, grades,
and class rank - in a national perspective. The SAT is a national admission test used by colleges
for this purpose.
SAT Reasoning Test
The SAT Reasoning Test is a measure of
the critical thinking skills you'll need for academic
success in college. The SAT assesses how well you
analyze and solve problems. The SAT includes a
Critical Reading,
Mathematics, and
Writing section. The 25-minute essay will always be
the first section of the SAT, and the 10-minute
multiple-choice writing section will always be the final
section. The remaining six 25-minute sections can appear
in any order, as can the two 20-minute sections.
Who should take the SAT?
Generally most college-bound students
will need to take one of the of the college admission
tests offered. Students should consult the institutions
to which they are applying to determine if they require
the SAT for admission.
When do students take the SAT?
It is typically recommended for high
school students to take the SAT in the spring of their
junior year. The test is administered seven times a
year.
