We've changed from WIA to WIOA (CCPS-WIOA)

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a division of Clayton County Public Schools Student Services funded by Atlanta Regional Workforce Board.

Purpose

“WIOA presents an extraordinary opportunity to improve educational goals for the district coupled with career options and work experience. It’s an integrated Education and Workforce system that drives out of school youth and young adults back to school and links diverse talent to businesses. It supports the development of competiveness, strong, vibrant economies where we live and work.”

Contact WIOA office with the name, date and school of any youth between the ages of 16 to 24, who has dropped out of school.

14 ELEMENTS OFFERED (services available)
  1. Tutoring,study skills training, instruction, and evidence-based dropout prevention and recovery strategies
  2. Alternative secondary school services or dropout recovery services.
  3. Paid and unpaid (work experiences) with academic and occupational education components.
  4. Occupation skill training that should be aligned with in-demand/growth sectors or occupations.
  5. Education offered concurrently with workforce preparing and occupational training.
  6. Leadership development opportunity.
  7. Supportive services
  8. Adult mentoring during participation and 12 months afterward
  9. 12 months of follow up services.
  10. Comprehensive guidance and counseling to include drug and alcohol abuse counseling.
  11. Financial Literacy education
  12. Entrepreneurial skills training
  13. Labor market and employment information and career readiness services
  14. Preparation PSE/training
Key Component under WIOA - Expanded Work Experience

Under WIOA, paid and unpaid work experiences that have as a component academic and occupational education. This may include the following four categories: year round employment opportunities available throughout the school year; pre-apprenticeship programs; internships and job shadowing; and on-the-job training opportunities. It’s encouraged that local programs coordinates work experiences, particularly year round employment services with other youth and young adult serving organizations and agencies.
