Substitute employment is on an on-call, as-needed basis. It is a part-time position without benefits. Substitute teachers are only required for assignments while school is in session.

Clayton County Public School District has chosen Absence Management to manage the assignments for our substitute teachers. This is an automated system that is simple to operate by using the telephone and the internet.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
The minimum requirement to apply for substitute teaching is to hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college.

To apply for substitute teaching you must complete an online substitute teacher application. You will only be able to submit the application if we have a job posted for the substitute teacher position in our employment opportunities.  

We review substitute applications periodically throughout the school year as the need arises to hire additional substitutes. If you are selected as a candidate for hire, the Human Resources Department will contact you by email.
We will ONLY contact those selected to be hired.
 

REMEMBER:  We have an abundance of applicants.  Most have the same qualifications.  It is impossible to hire every applicant to become a substitute.  Applications are reviewed throughout the school year.  Orientations are held several times during the school year.

If you are contacted to be hired, you will be required to supply a copy of your diploma or transcript with a degree statement to verify your highest level of education. If you are a certified teacher, a copy of your teaching certificate will be sufficient. 

All hiring for E-subs for the 2017/2018 school year is closed. 
Selections will be made from the candidates that attended the June 8, 2017 E-sub job fair for interviews.

The classification of substitutes called E Subs (Extended Subs) was created to utilize substitutes in vacant positions in critical need content areas.  This classification is paid at a higher rate and has responsibilities beyond those of a regular substitute.  The expectation at the school level is for the E-sub to be experienced and knowledgeable of the content area they are placed to teach until a fully certified teacher can be hired to take over the classroom.   The district only hires for this category of substitutes during the summer from the interviews conducted at an E-sub job fair.  The job fair took place on June 8, 2017 for the 2017/2018 school year.  At this time, HR does not anticipate another opportunity to interview for an E-sub position until next June 2018.
