About WORKTEC
In the summer of 2004, WORKTEC began
a comprehensive process of organizational change. To facilitate these
efforts, the services of Mr. Dale Verstegen, with the University of
Tennessee was retained. This process initiated with input from staff,
consumers, employees, and community stakeholders. Also conducted was an
analysis of WORKTEC's mission, values, vision, opportunities and threats
by members of the organizational change planning committee. Since
organizational change is an on-going process, WORKTEC will continue to
strive to revised our mission, vision, and values as change warrants.
The new current mission, vision, and values statements are as follows:
MISSION:
To create and provide employment
opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to
employment.
VISION:
To serve as a prime resource in the community
linking employers and job seekers to create long-term, mutually
beneficial relationships based on trust and respect, resulting in
productive employees staying attached to the labor market.
VALUES:
Each Person's ability, desire and right to employment opportunities;
A variety of training, education and employment choices for people we
serve;
Support for individuals by a highly-qualified, self-directed, ethical
and accountable staff;
Building strong, long-term relationships with business, employment and
community partners.
PURPOSE:
WORKTEC is a comprehensive work based Rehabilitation Program serving the
needs of individuals with disabilities. Located in Jonesboro, Georgia,
WORKTEC is convenient to provide services in the south metropolitan area
of Atlanta. WORKTEC subcontracts work from businesses and industry to
train participants in needed work habits and specialized job skills.
Classes assist in remedial education and learning to broaden
participation in community life.
ADMISSIONS:
Admission to WORKTEC is sponsored through the
Georgia Division of Rehabilitation Services, Clayton, Henry, and Fayette
County Boards of Education, or private rehabilitation services.
Participants must be at least 16 years of age or older and have a
disability. A medical and or emotional/behavioral condition must be
stabilized as defined by either General Medical, Psychological and/or
Mental Health Case notes. The participant must be able to function
Independently or with special accommodations independent of WORKTEC
staff, and must have the potential to benefit from available or
requested services. Furthermore, participants must be medically
complaint with prescribed treatment programs or assistive devices and
possess proper identification as specified under the Department of
Justice (Form I-9).
