Homeless Awareness Week

November 1st – 7th, 2009

“Everyone Deserves a Home”

November 1st – 7th, 2009 is designated as Homeless Awareness Week in Georgia. This statewide campaign is to educate the public about the many reasons people are homeless.  This year’s theme “Everyone Deserves A Home” reminds us that all Georgia residents deserve a safe and adequate place to call home.

Each year over 70,000 children and individuals become homeless in Georgia.  Our school system continues to do an awesome job providing support to families experiencing homelessness.  Our Homeless Education Department facilitates activities and services to homeless children and youth that enable them to enroll in, attend and succeed in school.

During this week of Homelessness Awareness, please wear the enclosed green and white ribbon as you join others in getting the word out that homelessness is not someone else’s problem.  It’s everyone’s problem! Wear your green and white ribbon as an indication of support that our school system is committed to minimizing the effects of mobility for homeless students and that we will work with parents to provide services that assist in maintaining a stable educational environment for homeless children and youth.
