Dr. April Crawford
Dr. April Crawford was appointed by the Clayton County Schools Board of Education on February 27, 2023 to serve as Deputy Superintendent, recommended by Dr. Anthony W. Smith, Superintendent. Prior to her appointment in Clayton County Public Schools, Dr. Crawford served as Chief Officer of Student Support Services in Henry County Public Schools, which is the eighth largest school district in Georgia.
Throughout her 30-year career in public education, Dr. Crawford has served as a special education teacher, instructional lead teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction and chief officer, with twenty-one of those years in Clayton County Public Schools. She has established a strong track record of success working collaboratively with district and school leaders, school staff, students, and families to improve academic outcomes while building systems to improve the personal health and well-being of students and employees. She is a fervent believer that student learning is the core business of any school system, but progress cannot happen if the conditions have not been set to create a meaningful and engaging experience for all.
Dr. Crawford is excited to return home to Clayton County Public Schools! She believes that schools are unifiers of the community and everyone should be connected and feel welcomed in Clayton County Public Schools. She has a deep passion for this work and looks forward to working collaboratively and strategically in partnership with all stakeholders to remove barriers to learning for all students.
Dr. Crawford holds a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Georgia, Master of Arts, Specialist, and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Administration and Supervision from Georgia State University. When not working, she enjoys watching movies, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. She is married to Tony Crawford and has two sons, Garrison Madden and Tony Crawford II.
