Brown Elementary today, November 30, as Principal Trina Reaves and other school administrators hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the grand opening of the schools’ new department store, Bear Apparel & Things (B.A.T).

Sponsored by Ms. Antney and various other donors, B.A.T. will allow students to be interviewed and hired to run the store while earning a weekly paycheck (Bear Bucks) to purchase items from the store. Items available for purchase include board games, shoes, school supplies, household items, televisions and various other products. Students can also receive Bear Bucks by earning good grades and practicing good citizenship within the school.

As all CCPS schools continue to prepare students to be college and career ready, Brown Elementary also launched Bears Marketing and Communications Inc. and Brown Bank and Trust to create additional opportunities for students to gain experience with other careers.

In addition to hosting the ribbon cutting Ms. Antney spoke with students from each grade level about her background, as well as growing up and the importance of making goals and aligning priorities to be successful throughout life.

District leaders in attendance for the ceremony include: Dr. Morcease J. Beasley – Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ralph Simpson – Deputy of School Leadership and Improvement, Charmine Johnson – Assistant Superintendent, April Mayo – Director of Instructional Technology, Dr. Eboni Chillis – Coordinator of Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (C.T.A.E), Janetta Greenwood – Science Coordinator, Wayne Clayton – School Improvement Coordinator, and Dr. Donna Graham — School Improvement Coordinator.

On behalf of Clayton County Public Schools, thank you Ms. Antney for this unbelievable opportunity to further engage our students. We appreciate your continued partnership with Brown Elementary School and your support of our students, community and school system!
