Dr. Anthony Smith

Dr. Anthony Wayne Smith began his career in education after serving honorably nine years in the United States Air Force as well as three years in the banking industry. His desire to become a change agent in the field of education led him to a position teaching computer technology in Clayton County Public Schools. After spending four years in the classroom, Dr. Smith’s leadership skills and talents propelled him to assistant principal at Starr’s Mill High School in Fayette County. Subsequently, he returned to Clayton County as a middle school assistant principal, middle school principal and later a high school principal. Eventually, Dr. Smith accepted a position in the Central Office and his success would lead to promotion as Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Over the last seven years, Dr. Smith served as Area Superintendent for Clayton County Schools until his promotion to Deputy Superintendent.

Dr. Smith has earned several degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Granite State College; a Master of Science in Business Education from Southern New Hampshire University; a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Jacksonville State University; an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University; and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Smith provides leadership in various capacities. He currently serves on the Governing Board Council for Elite Scholars Academy, a nationally recognized charter school. He also served as a board member of the Rainbow House Emergency Shelter for Children. Most recently, Dr. Smith completed the Urban Superintendent Academy sponsored by AASA (American Association of School Administrators).
