WBL Success Seminar

The WBL Success Seminar is held in the first semester of the school year and hosted by Clayton State University. Each year approximately 200 students and 50 school representatives attended. The Success Seminar is comprised of two sessions. Each session has 10 workshops directed by industry professionals. The workshops focus on teaching soft skills or "essential skills" needed to be successful in the workforce. Students select one workshop from each session. Instructors develop their workshops to be interactive and hands on. Subject content included the importance of first impressions, communications, dress for success, technology and behavior in the workplace and more. The Success Seminar opens with an introduction and welcome from Clayton State University president Dr. Tim Hynes, followed by a General Session. The Keynote Speakers included Mr. James Harris, from Usher’s New Look Foundation.

Shining Light Neighborhood Safety Walk

The Shining Light Neighborhood Safety Walk is an initiative to provide the students in the Law Enforcement Services/Forensic Science Pathway an opportunity to apply classwork with real world, real work experience. The safety walk is a collaboration with Clayton County Police Department and Clayton Neighborhood Revitalization Coalition (CNRC). As a founding member of CNRC, along with Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity, the safety walk engages a select neighborhood. CCPS students researched and prepared a flyer focused on a specific community safety message. Law enforcement officers, students, neighborhood association and community leaders, and residents walk through the community and distribute the flyers.

The event engages the community and brings awareness to various important safety topics. Safety walks are scheduled throughout the school year. Recent safety walks have included a Community Resource Fair, complimentary food from a food truck and entertainment from a mobile gaming vehicle.

CTAE Achievement Ceremony

The CTAE Achievement Ceremony recognizes student achievement in Accuplacer (Move On When Ready) and End of Pathway Assessments (EOPA). The Accuplacer (Move On When Ready) exam is part of Dual Enrollment and is taken to determine the student’s level of readiness to take college level courses and attain college credit while in high school. The EOPA is given to students that pass three sequential classes within a specific career pathway. Students that successfully complete the EOPA earn an industry recognized credential, signifying the student’s achievement and preparedness for career, college and the workforce.

CTAE Teach-a-Palooza

Every year, CTAE teachers dedicate their time, energy and passion to students taking CTAE courses. This involves not only teaching in class, but promoting the program, seeking and working with partners, employers, arranging field trips and much more. Teach-a-Palooza is a fun filled afternoon set aside to thank the CTAE instructors and to show our appreciation for work they do. The afternoon is supported by contributions from our CTAE Business/Industry and Community Leaders Advisory Board members and other program partners. The afternoon is held outdoors and includes food, music, games and more.
