Charter Petition Renewal Timeline/Materials/Process
Charter Petition Renewal
A charter renewal application is the formal document submitted by an existing charter school seeking continued authorization to operate beyond the current charter term, which is typically five years. The renewal application allows the authorizer, Clayton County Public Schools to evaluate the school’s overall performance and determine whether the charter should be renewed.
Note that SBOE Rule 160-4-9-.05 requires that the renewal petition due date must be posted before August 1.
(i) Establish a final renewal petition submission deadline that is on or before the first Tuesday in January, unless the OCSC approves an alternative deadline in advance.
(ii) Require the local board to, by majority vote, approve or deny renewal petitions prior to March 1.
