what is SPLOST?                                                         SPLOST [Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax] is a one-cent tax on consumer goods for a term no longer than five years. The revenues of this sales tax are distributed to the local school district in which the tax is collected.  In 1996, Georgia voters passed a state constitutional amendment, authorizing local school boards to put sales tax referendums on ballots. In 1997, the great citizens of Clayton County passed their first SPLOST referendum. In accordance with Georgia Law, these tax dollars are specifically earmarked only for Capital Improvements projects for educational purposes.

Acquiring Property for a Growing School District. Land purchased to construct school facilities must meet specific requirements. Potential school sites are reviewed and approved by the Georgia Department of EducationBoard Policy FEDA addresses the purchase of real estate and property acquisition for school sites.
