Retirement Pension Plans

Understanding your pension benefits is an important step toward preparing for retirement. Eligible Clayton County Public Schools employees participate in the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) or the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) based on their position and applicable membership requirements.
Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS)
Certified personnel and eligible classified employees participate in TRS. Contact TRS for information about your membership, service credit, retirement eligibility, benefit estimates, and retirement application.
TRS Contributions
Employees contribute 6% of their eligible, pre-tax compensation through payroll deductions.
CCPS also contributes to help fund the retirement system. The employer rate increased from 21.91% to 22.32% on July 1, 2026. The employee contribution rate remains unchanged.

Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS)
Eligible bus drivers, school nutrition employees, custodians, maintenance employees, and mechanics participate in PSERS, which is administered by the Employees’ Retirement System of Georgia (ERSGA).
PSERS Contributions
Your required monthly contribution depends on when you became a PSERS member:
| PSERS Membership Date | Monthly Employee Contribution |
|---|---|
| Before July 1, 2012 | $4 |
| On or after July 1, 2012 | $10 |
Contributions are required for each month you receive pay from the school system during September through May. The contribution is a fixed amount rather than a percentage of your salary. Contact ERSGA to confirm your contribution category if you previously received a refund of your PSERS membership.
