Completion of the first Moreland University TeachNOW and New Teacher Induction (NTI)
The Department of Exceptional Students (DES) remains committed to ensuring that highly qualified special education teachers lead every classroom. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, we continue to support educators on their journey toward certification and successful classroom integration.
This past year, 23 candidates completed their certification requirements through Moreland University as part of a district-supported initiative to address the ongoing teacher shortage. By fully funding this opportunity, the district removed financial barriers and provided aspiring special education teachers with a high-quality, accessible pathway to certification.
In addition, 15 New Teacher Induction (NTI) candidates completed 8 months of intensive training during the 2024–25 school year. This marks the third consecutive year DES has partnered with Metro RESA to implement the NTI program, equipping new educators with the tools and support needed to thrive in their roles.
These initiatives reflect our continued commitment to building a sustainable, well-prepared special education workforce that can effectively support students with disabilities.
