Recognized by GaDOE for progress on services provided for SWD who are incarcerated

The Department of Exceptional Students has forged a proactive partnership this school year with the Clayton County Jail to deliver tailored educational services to incarcerated students with disabilities, aged 17 to 22. This initiative is dedicated to ensuring that education continues to be a transformative force, even within the confines of incarceration. By providing specialized support and learning opportunities, we are not just preventing educational stagnation; we are actively assisting students in their pursuit of graduation and future success. The positive outcomes from our collaboration have garnered recognition from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), which has invited our team to share insights and strategies at a panel Q&A during the upcoming State Federal Programs Conference in June 2024.

This partnership has significantly enhanced the range of positive educational services available to our students, aligning with our broader mission to shatter inequities and break barriers in education. This acknowledgment underlines the impact and importance of continuous educational support and is a testament to our commitment to serve all students with the highest standards of excellence.
