Elementary School Counseling
Welcome to Elementary School Counseling
The Elementary School Counseling Program in Clayton County Public Schools supports the academic, social-emotional, and future readiness of every student. School counselors work collaboratively with teachers, families, and school leaders to help students build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in school and beyond.
Our comprehensive school counseling program is aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, which ensures that all students have access to counseling services that promote academic achievement, social-emotional development, and college and career readiness. Through a data-informed, student-centered approach, school counselors deliver services that support the success of every learner.
At the elementary level, school counseling focuses on strengthening early literacy, executive functioning skills, and positive learning habits that form the foundation for long-term academic success. Through classroom lessons, small group support, and individual student services, counselors help students develop essential skills such as focus, self-control, organization, flexible thinking, goal setting, and problem-solving.
Elementary school counselors also begin introducing students to the possibilities that await them after high school. Through age-appropriate career awareness and exploration activities, students learn about the pathways represented by the district’s Four E’s: Enrollment, Enlistment, Employment, and Entrepreneurship.
By building strong reading habits, strengthening executive functioning skills, and encouraging curiosity about future opportunities, the elementary school counseling program helps students begin their journey toward becoming confident learners and future-ready leaders
