Core Curriculum Classroom Lessons

Core Curriculum Classroom Lessons

School counselors provide classroom counseling lessons throughout the school year that help students build the skills needed for success in school and in life. These lessons are delivered to all students and focus on developing positive attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors that support learning, relationships, and personal growth.

Classroom lessons are aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success, which guide the development of skills that promote academic achievement, social-emotional development, and college and career readiness.

Through engaging and age-appropriate activities, students learn skills such as:

  • emotional awareness and self-regulation

  • friendship and relationship skills

  • conflict resolution and problem solving

  • growth mindset and perseverance

  • goal setting and responsibility

  • organization and executive functioning skills

  • kindness, empathy, and respect for others

  • early career awareness and exploration

These lessons help students develop positive learning habits, strengthen executive functioning skills, and build confidence as learners. By introducing these foundational skills early, school counselors help students develop the attitudes and behaviors needed to succeed throughout their educational journey and prepare for future opportunities aligned with the district’s Four E’s: Enrollment, Enlistment, Employment, and Entrepreneurship.
