Middle School Counseling (Grades 6-8)

Middle School Counseling

Middle school is an important time of growth and discovery. The Middle School Counseling Program supports students as they navigate academic expectations, develop positive relationships, and begin exploring future goals.

Our school counselors partner with students, families, and teachers to ensure that every student is supported academically, socially, and emotionally during these critical years.

What School Counselors Do

Middle school counselors provide services that help students build the skills they need to succeed in school and prepare for high school and beyond.

Counselors support students through:

Academic Development

  • Monitoring student progress and academic performance

  • Helping students develop strong study and organizational skills

  • Supporting students who may be struggling academically

  • Assisting with course planning and preparation for high school

Social and Emotional Development

  • Helping students build positive peer relationships

  • Teaching skills such as problem solving, self-control, and decision making

  • Supporting students during challenging situations

  • Providing short-term individual or small group support when needed

Career Awareness and Exploration

  • Helping students discover their interests and strengths

  • Introducing students to career pathways and opportunities

  • Connecting classroom learning to future careers

Individual Student Planning

School counselors work with students each year to help them begin thinking about their future. During middle school, students learn how their interests, strengths, and academic choices connect to their high school plans and long-term goals.

Classroom Guidance Lessons

Counselors visit classrooms to teach lessons that focus on important life skills such as:

  • Goal setting

  • Time management

  • Organization

  • Decision making

  • Building healthy relationships

These lessons help students develop skills that support both academic success and personal growth.

Partnering with Families

Families play an important role in student success. Our counselors work closely with parents and guardians to ensure students receive the support they need.

Parents are encouraged to contact the school counselor if they have questions or concerns related to their child’s:

  • Academic progress

  • Social or emotional development

  • Transition to high school

Together, we can help every student build confidence, develop strong skills, and prepare for a successful future.
