What do students learn in Science?

  • In a science classroom, students are equipped to build their knowledge of scientific concepts and develop higher-order thinking and inquiry-based skills that align to the Georgia Science Standards of Excellence.
  • Students are engaged in Three-Dimensional Learning, which is the combination of Crosscutting Concepts, Science & Engineering Practices, and Core Disciplinary Ideas.
  • A focus on literacy in science, mathematics, and technology is important to help students make sense of how things work in the natural and designed world. (Benchmarks for Science Literacy)

What is available to enrich student learning in science?

  • Georgia Aquarium Partnership -  In 2022, Clayton County Public Schools established a partnership with the Georgia Aquarium, Inc. This partnership allows all CCPS teachers and students to experience the following:
    • Instructor-Led Field Trips
    • General Admissions Field Trips
    • Classroom Outreach
    • Virtual Field Trips
    • Professional Development
    • Aquaponics Education
  • Science & Engineering Fair -  This competition is an opportunity for all students in grades 4-12 to showcase their original research and advance from the Clayton County Public Schools Regional Science & Engineering Fair to the State K-5 Science and Engineering Fair, Georgia Science & Engineering Fair and/or International Science & Engineering Fair to compete for awards.
  • Climate Justice Competition - This competition is through a partnership with the Captain Planet Foundation. "The Green Heart STEM Challenge” is an annual event challenging youth around the world to explore and identify environmental justice issues in their communities, and to design feasible solutions to address these problems while advancing equity and justice. 
  • Model Water Tower Competition - This competition is through a partnership with Clayton County Water Authority.  This competition brings awareness to the importance of reliable drinking water, creates exposure to developing ideas, solving real-world problems, and introducing careers available in the water profession.
