How does Library Media Services support each child's learning?
- Students in all grades visit the Media Center to check out books of interest.
- Students learn information literacy skills needed to understand how to use information for learning and research.
What can a parent or guardian do at home to support their child's reading and research experiences?
- Destiny Discover and Sora are available to students through the CCPS Portal to read eBooks at school or at home.
- A Digital Public Library Card can be requested to read eBooks online and use online resources available from the Clayton County Library System.
What is available to enrich student reading and research experiences?
- Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (Grades K-12) - Students read award nominated books and compete in a quiz bowl style competition to show what they know. Competitions are held for students in grades K-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Ask your Media Specialist for more information about the competitions.
- Summer Reading - Students are challenged to read each summer to ensure they are better prepared for the new school year.
How are books selected for the media center book collections?
- District regulation IFBC-R(1): Media Programs - Operational Procedures, Selection and Evaluation of Instructional Media details the criteria Media Specialists use to select books and media materials to add to the school media center book collection.
- Local and independent authors wishing to bring his or her book to the attention of our Media Specialists can complete the procedure detailed in the district Local and Independent Author Consideration Procedure.
