It is an exciting time of year! Exceptional Children’s Week in Clayton County Public Schools is sponsored by the Department of Exceptional Students’ and the Clayton County School District. This year’s theme, “Vision 2020: See My Abilities,” focuses on the connections to community and supports that help focus on the abilities, rather than disabilities of our students and support students in what they need for success in Clayton County Public Schools and beyond.

The weeklong celebration will be marked by instructional activities focused on awareness of diverse and unique abilities and the support and accommodations that build both “near vision” - what we do while in school and “far vision” - what supports are available in the community, workforce, college, and beyond. The heart of Exceptional Children’s Week is recognizing and honoring the spirit and goals of quality special education and disability services in the school and community. During this week, the Department of Exceptional Students is sponsoring a district-wide button contest. The winning artwork will embody the theme “Vision 2020: See My Abilities.”

The culminating event for Exceptional Children’s Week will be the Department of Exceptional Students’ Parent Expo on March 7th at Mundy’s Mill High School (9AM to 1PM) which will feature special guests, community connections, educational information, and informational vendor tables. Activities will be available for children and parents including information on services, supports, Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation, colleges, careers, accommodations, and technology. Additionally, the day will feature the district’s wheelchair basketball team, the Clayton Eagles, in an exhibition game and learning experience. We know you will enjoy learning the art of disability sporting events. There will be opportunities for fun, prizes, information, and learning. We will see you all there! DES Parent Expo Flyer
