Considerations and Collaborations for School Closings
In the event of inclement weather, our priority is to make sure all Clayton County Public School (CCPS) students and employees are safe. The CCPS Superintendent of Schools will make a decision to open or close schools in inclement weather based on careful analysis of as many relevant factors that can be gathered. The following information highlights the school district’s process for determining the status of schools during inclement weather:
- In the event of inclement weather, the CCPS Department of Safety and Security monitors weather forecasts as well as works collaboratively with other district staff, County and Government entities such as the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and other emergency personnel.
- Once information is attained by the CCPS Department of Safety and Security, it is presented to the Superintendent of Schools to determine the next steps.
- The Superintendent of Schools uses the updates to make the decision whether to delay start times, dismiss early and/or close schools.
