Here's What's Happening
Clayton County Public Schools held its Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, November 14, 2024, dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of military veterans who are currently serving in our district and the community of Clayton County. Hosted annually, the dinner brings together veterans, their families, and members of the local community to celebrate and express gratitude for their contributions to the country.
The ceremony, hosted by the Department of Engagement, featured a program led by our distinguished students. Highlights included a catered dinner provided by “Creative Occasions,” live music by the Mt. Zion High Jazz Ensemble, and an inspiring Walk of Armed Forces. The program also featured a resolution reading by District 76 Representative, the Honorable Sandra Scott, a heartfelt memorial presentation honoring a fallen soldier, and a powerful keynote address by retired Army veteran and Vice-Chair of the Clayton County Public Schools Foundation, Colonel Mitch Johnson. This program fostered a deeper understanding of the importance of military service and promoted respect and gratitude among students. It also provided a platform for veterans to connect, strengthening the bonds of camaraderie and support within the local veteran community.
Clayton County Public Schools honors all veterans who have served in the U.S. military and thanks everyone who had a part in putting this ceremony together. The Veterans Appreciation Dinner is not only an opportunity for veterans to be honored but also serves as a teaching moment for students, educators, and community members by emphasizing the values of patriotism, sacrifice, and service.
