During the combined Regular Board Meeting and Work Session of the Clayton County Board of Education on Monday, January 12, 2026, Superintendent/CEO of Schools Dr. Anthony W. Smith recommended and received approval for the appointments of school leaders listed below to aid the district in achieving the goal of Building a Better Tomorrow, Today!

Additionally, in light of Superintendent Dr. Smith's retirement on February 1, 2026, the Clayton County Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Douglas Hendrix Sr. as Interim Superintendent, effective February 2, 2026.
Dr. Douglas Hendrix Sr. brings over 30 years of experience in public education, with leadership spanning from the classroom to district-wide operations. Most recently, he served as Senior Deputy Superintendent/ Chief of Staff for Clayton County Public Schools. His career encompasses roles as a classroom teacher, school administration, and district-level executive leadership, with a focus on operational stability, governance, and system alignment to support students and families.
