Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) is excited to share CCPS…Where Literacy Lives, a districtwide initiative designed to promote literacy as a foundational skill and a way of life that extends beyond the classroom and into the homes and communities of Clayton County.

Grounded in the belief that literacy is essential to student success and lifelong achievement, this initiative reinforces the district’s commitment to integrating reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension into everyday experiences for all students and families.

As part of this initiative, Clayton County Public Schools proudly continues the “Books and…” series—an engaging read-aloud experience featuring voices from across the district and community. The next episode features Clayton County Board of Education Member Dr. Deatrice “Dee” Haney (District 5) and will continue with all Board Members in district order. In this episode, Dr. Haney reads My Home is in My Backpack, a children's picture book by Eugenia Perrella, illustrated by Angela Salerno, about a young girl named Clara and her family's journey as refugees, emphasizing that "home" is found in the people and love they carry with them, not just a physical place.

Each segment within the series is paired with a Community Connection Activity, designed to extend learning beyond the screen and into the home. These activities encourage families to read, engage in meaningful conversations, and apply literacy skills together, supporting the development of oral language, vocabulary, and comprehension in authentic and interactive ways.
