Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) is excited to share CCPS…Where Literacy Lives, a districtwide initiative designed to promote literacy as a foundational skill and a way of life that extends beyond the classroom and into the homes and communities of Clayton County.

Grounded in the belief that literacy is essential to student success and lifelong achievement, this initiative reinforces the district’s commitment to integrating reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension into everyday experiences for all students and families.

As part of this initiative, Clayton County Public Schools proudly continues the “Books and…” series—an engaging read-aloud experience featuring voices from across the district and community. The next episode features Clayton County Board of Education Member Ms. Joy Tellis Cooper (District 8) and will continue with all Board Members in district order. In this episode, Ms. Tellis Cooper reads CeeCee: Underground Railroad Cinderella by Shana Keller and illustrated by Laura Freeman. This children’s historical fiction picture book reimagines Cinderella through the story of a young enslaved girl on a Maryland plantation who secretly learns to read and discovers hope, courage, and freedom through the Underground Railroad.

Each segment within the series is paired with a Community Connection Activity, designed to extend learning beyond the screen and into the home. These activities encourage families to read, engage in meaningful conversations, and apply literacy skills together, supporting the development of oral language, vocabulary, and comprehension in authentic and interactive ways.
